PIANO LESSONS

Every pupil is unique with different goals and learning styles. It is really important for me to cater the lesson to the individual student to work most effectively for them. I don’t use the same beginner book for every student. I enhance each student’s repertoire with music chosen for them to enjoy their daily time at the piano.

I am conducting some lessons over Zoom and Skype and this is surprisingly effective, especially for Theory, Harmony and History courses. While in person lessons are usually best, I have found that we can have very good lessons around the globe!

I have two pianos in my studio, and this allows me to help my students uniquely with learning a new skill or piece. I can play one hand of the work on my piano while while my student plays the other on the second piano.

I try to play duets at most lessons, which helps a student develop their ear, sense of rhythm and great sight reading skills while having a lot of fun!

I love jazz, and I inspire my pupils to enjoy that genre of music as much as I can! I also encourage my students to play seasonal songs at Christmas time!

Susan has become adept at providing online lessons and has some students world wide. This suits students in challenging locations who need her level of teaching which may not be available locally.

Throughout the pandemic, I conducted lessons very successfully online with Zoom, and this platform has become a viable alternative to in person lessons when a student is not able to travel to a lesson!
