Sight reading is the greatest skill a pianist can have. Susan gives students a wide variety of pieces each week, not just the ones required for skill levels.
Susan believes that sight reading is the greatest skill that a pianist can have and nurturing that ability in a person of any age is her fundamental goal. Anything and everything becomes possible when you can sight read well! With that in mind, she gives her students a wide variety of pieces each week, from Beethoven to Boogie Woogie, to help motivate them to have fun at the piano!
Susan encourages her students to perform with other students, in duets, or with different instruments. Playing with another person not only develops one’s ear, rhythm and sight reading skills, but is also great fun! Ideally, she would like to pair each of her students with a violinist or cellist so they can develop a friendship with one another that’s based on their musical collaboration!
It’s never too late to learn to play the piano. One can derive so much enjoyment with this instrument at any age!
